Frank Gehry: Who makes the building to dance

Can somebody make the cement and bricks dance? Can someone make the craziest yet most amazing architecture in the entire world? if your answer is yes, then you must know Frank Gehry the man who makes buildings dance with his architectural style”.

The Canadian-born architect Frank Gehry – the most iconic architect of our time, Frank Gehry is well known for his unusual and unfriendly architectural style, he sees architecture as a language to transfer his thoughts and also to transfer his emotions.

What is it if it doesn’t make someone think it’s amazing, that’s the trademark of Frank’s work, from Walt Disney concert hall to the dancing house all of his architecture has a very different and beautiful story hidden within.

Design Philosophy

After reading all the things above you may be wondering what kind of design concept(philosophy) Frank Gehry follows and it is really hard to explain because he did something which is never before defined, but still, his architectural design is called modern and contemporary architecture.

Frank Gehry: Who makes the building to dance
Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain

Frank’s work contains illusion and unrealistic design, his architectures relate to the purpose rather than ordinary or amazing designs, and he sketches to relate the purpose along with the architecture.

The Walt Disney concert hall relates to music and art, likewise, all of his architecture relates to the purpose of its construction. We can call Frank Gehry’s architectural style the mirror of thoughts.

Frank Gehry Works

Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles

walt disney concert hall

This architecture is considered one of the most iconic architecture ever built on earth with giant stainless steel outside and smooth melody designs inside, The purpose of the design of Walt Disney Concert Hall is to make both the performer and audience feel comfortable inside the construction.

Olympic Fish Pavilion, Barcelona

As the name defines, the Olympic Fish Pavilion is a fish-like architectural design, The canopy for the luxurious restaurant and casino has the purpose of making the people feel like they are inside a magical and unrealistic architecture, it also fulfills a joyous place.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain

Guggenheim Museum

In the world of architecture, only a few are so-called masterpiece of architecture, Guggenheim Museum is one such, art and architecture is the thing that never separates, here Frank Gehry designed the architecture in a lotus-like design when looked at bridge, river, and sky but still it is not a lotus, that’s the work of frank to show something realistic and yet it isn’t real.

Museum of pop culture(moPOP), Seattle

How on earth someone can design like this? They have to dream and make it a reality, The story behind moPOP design is that Frank bought several guitars broke them into pieces, and made a design from them, This is the most iconic design story I ever heard and I hope you are too.

The design defines the relationship between modern pop culture and the rock ‘n’ roll design concept which made it the most iconic architecture to date. Art is something that freezes at least a minute in the life of common people and the architecture that Frank Gehry made does freeze you at first sight.

The traditional farming method of Meghalaya provides sufficient food to the people preserves nature and protects the environment for the next generation.

Shifting agriculture is one of the most popular farming methods followed even today in the state of Meghalaya,  slash and burn, clearing the forest area for agricultural usage to grow crops for a very short period from one to ten years, people move to another place for cultivation and waits till the soil gets the fertility back.

Bun or terrace cultivation is practiced widely in the valleys of Meghalaya, it helps the soil to be moisture all the time and prevents land degradation and soil erosion.

The irrigation process is very important in crop production as it allows to use of water in a proper way, bamboo drip irrigation is a perfect traditional farmer’s skill in agriculture and it is widely practiced in the hilly region of Jaintia, to maintain the soil poor farming condition, bamboo culms used for the irrigation process, locally available bamboos are used in the water channels, by the usage of bamboo culms it prevents the leakage of water and prevents water loss.

Black pepper, areca, and betel vines are irrigated using the bamboo irrigation system.

Bench terrace irrigation system is another way followed in the state of Meghalaya, water from the streams is used as soon as it comes from the forest, and the water flows from the upper to the lower part of the terrace fields, it is mostly used in the non-fertile areas.

The tree-based plantation is one of the traditional ways of plantation and it is being followed by the native folks of Meghalaya, the tree plantation involves using various tree plantations according to the afro-climatic condition, which helps to increase the agricultural crops and forest production.

At least some people in the world are caring about nature which gives us food, water, and space to live in.

Conclusion

With traditional architecture and rich cultivation methodologies with more natural resources, Meghalaya is one of a treasure of the Indian sub-continent, even today the state shines with its native tribal way of living and practicing ancient farming methods which add more value to agriculture and it also helps soil to get more fertilization without the use of chemicals, if you want to explore one place in the upcoming summer vacation, do book a ticket to Meghalaya where the cloud dances in the roads and nature welcome you with a broader smile,

Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe: Less is more

Ludwig Mies Van Der

Ludwig Mies Van Der- Today at the start of 2020, the world is so modern and we have all the advanced technology of the world of all time, but when we look through history we have architecture as the only proof of the evolution of civilization, Some people structured the roadmap of architecture and here we are seeing about one such person who designed the modernism in a very simplified version.

Mies Van Der Rohe, the name which echoes in the tall American buildings and in the world of modern minimal architecture, being born in Aachen, Germany, Mies is strongly inspired by minimalism, “less is more” that’s what represents each of his work when the world is looking for attractions, mies looked deeper into simplicity and it made him become the master in his work.

Mies lived in the present all the time and thought in the same way, he often refers “We don’t look into the history of civilization, we look into the civilization we live”, and he looked into the present and created the architecture for it, he uses industrial steel and plate glass in all of his architecture and it becomes the international style of architecture afterward, rather than being inspired by the legendary architects, he himself becomes one by creating his own style.

Mies van loved modernism and minimalism so he combined both and created art out of it, he also had an urge to show the interior to the world and he did it in his work.

Being one of the greatest architects of the 20th century, mies refers to his work as “skin and bone”, today his work is the face of Chicago and its modern buildings, the style of Mies van inspired many and that’s how the entire world took his idea and recreated buildings with the use of more steel and glass to represent the modernism.

Of all the work he did, it represented a classy way to create an impact at first sight, all of his work looks neat, simple, and yet modern.

The world has seen architects use stones, bricks, steel, and glass to build and decorate buildings, but in the busy city of Japan, someone created buildings with paper and cardboard.

You may think how in the world someone builds with the use of paper and cardboard, but if something is used in the right place with the right method anything is possible.

In the emerging world of architecture people often introduce new materials, new ways, and methods of building, being inspired by both American and Japanese architectural styles, Shigeru Ban used a kind of new-age architecture.

Shigeru used cardboard tubes and papers to build houses if we see the work from the human perspective it may not make sense, but if we look at it from the architect’s perspective it is a solution for people who used to live in earthquakes and consistent natural disaster places.

Apart from his creative cardboard architecture style, his other architecture like an Aspen art museum, center Pompidou Metz, Mt Fuji World Heritage Center, and Nicolas Hayek Center Tokyo represent his part in the new age of modern architecture.

The classic yet dynamic approach of his architecture gave a new look to the building and the style of architecture like every other legendary architect did.

The new way of Architecture

Shigeru Ban created houses with paper during the tsunami times and made shelters out of cardboard during the torrential rain, this shows us a new way of architecture and gives hope to the young architects to think in a very different way.

La Seine Musicale (Paris), Nomadic Museum ( New York), and Haesley Nine Bridges (South Korea) are some of the other fine works done by Shigeru Ban and it all has a different shade of architecture which represents his trademark style.

Frank Lloyd Wright: The Evolution of Architecture

To the surprise of many all the successful human beings, scientists, and artists were unfortunately born in America, frank Lloyd wright too, before changing the world of architecture into a newly painted wall, Frank Wright graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Wisconsin and he was born there too ( Richland Center, Wisconsin – June 8, 1867).

Like every youth, Frank started working as a draftsman in a Chicago architectural firm at the age of 20 and started his own firm at the age of 25 after practicing and learning and also defining a new shade to the architectural field.

If you google the greatest architecture in the history of humankind, Frank Lloyd Wright the name will pop up on every website you’re looking at, that’s the contribution Frank Wright made for architecture.

Apart from all the achievements, histories, and appreciation of Frank Wright, what changed the evolution of architecture is its way of simplifying building which has the connection of nature within itself.

The Prairie Architecture

By chance if you go into the Midwest of Chicago and see houses that are deeply attached to the ground largely horizontal in shape and have larger space inside the house with row windows, don’t be surprised, that is called “prairie architecture”

Frank Wright believed that a house is a public place and it should have larger spaces with a touch of nature in it, so he created the so-called “prairie architecture”, horizontal in shape, strongly attached to the ground with fewer rooms separating the house and mostly wooden interiors and furniture, that’s the concept of prairie architecture and it is servicing its purpose after hundred years successfully, all the modern houses and architecture after the 19th century is influenced by the design of prairie architecture style.

We can see prairie architecture houses mostly In the Midwest region, Chicago, and around, Robie House is an iconic example of it.

Organic Architecture

After submitting the greatest prairie architecture style, frankly did another work of magic called organic architecture, like the human organism organic architecture connects all of its designs to one another and the entire house can be intermixed with one another, to contribute the work with nature largely rather than modernity, frank wright did use stones and woods as the two core material to structure the organic architecture.

The organic architecture looks more like a high fashion house with natural materials, frank used his creativity to structure the design by painting, covering, plastering, and alternating woods and stones to match the fashion, the organic architecture houses are intertwined within nature.

Even though being looks like a royal and luxurious house, the organic architecture indeed is a work of nature, one can feel the connection with the nature inside the organic architecture buildings, and that’s how Frank Wright became a legendary architecture and to till the day we are speaking about his magnificent work.

The falling water in Pennsylvania is a great identity of architecture, a  house in the middle of the forest with falling water underneath, sounds like magic. That’s what Frank Wright created and gave to the world of architecture.
